Three Folk at Bailieborough Bridewell
Following a feasibility and development plan for the restoration and development of the Bailieborough Bridewell & Courthouse delivered by MCA (Allen McAdam) and Cooney Architects, Cavan County Council secured funding under RRDF and PEACEPLUS to renovate this historical building and to transform it into a multi-use visitor attraction & community hub.
In 2022, Mirador won the contract to develop the visitor experience at the Bridewell through a competitive tender process. Working in consultation with Cavan County Council, Cooney Architects, and the Ulster Scots Agency and Bailiebouragh Development Association, Mirador delivered a fully costed design & plan for the development of this proposed tourist destination. This included historical research, public consultation, market and audience analysis, the development of themes & stories, exhibition layout design & costings. The proposed experience tells the story of ‘The Three Folk’ (Gaelic, English & Scots) in a multi-faceted exhibition covering themes such as belief, words, justice and home told in innovative ways throughout the Bridewell and enclosed courtyards. With the Bridewell’s renovation works completed, Mirador undertook the exhibits manufacture and fitted out the building and courtyards in November of 2024. The interpretative interventions designed and manufactured by Mirador are sympathetic to the building’s original materials resulting in a visitor experience which blends seamlessly into the original fabric while being very impactful. As part of the project, Mirador was also asked to contribute to the Town Centre First Plan for Bailieborough developed by Cooney Architects by way of historical research and assistance in mapping the visitor journey from the courthouse, adjoining public realm and throughout the wider local area.
