Duncannon Fort
Duncannon Fort is an important sixteenth century coastal bastioned fort situated on a rocky promontory perched on the side of the stunning Hook Peninsula, County Wexford. The fort contains earlier archaeological remains of a fifteenth century castle with associated curtain wall and towers and probably an earlier prehistoric promontory fort. The Duncannon is one of only three bastioned forts built in County Wexford and the only one which is accessible to the public. It is in the ownership of both the Office of Public Works (OPW) and Wexford County Council.
The historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe inspiring stories over its 450 year history and holds one of the best vantage points from which toobserve the beautiful Waterford Estuary. The site is open 7 days a week from June until the end of August for guided tours.
Because of the delicate nature of the site and many health & safety issues attached to it, it was decided that the interpretation of Duncannon Fort should take to form of a guided tour with a minimum amount of signage. Mirador Media set-out to research the fort's history, design a walking route with designated points of interest, and write a script for the tour guides which would be both informative and entertaining. The result can be seen in the stellar TripAdvisor reviews left by visitors. Banners and signs were also designed and produced by Mirador to promote the fort and support the guided tour.
