Knights & Legends at Granard Motte & Bailey
Granard Motte Community Enterprise Ltd has been granted funding by Longford County Council to design and develop an indoor interpretive centre in an existing building, which will form part of an extensive heritage park at Granard, Co. Longford.
Mirador Media Ltd won the design & fit-out contract for the indoor interpretative centre following a competitive tender process and the first task in the project consisted in identifying the main theme of interpretation for the proposed attraction.
This stage of the process related to identification of a primary vision, practical requirements and financial projections in developing a coherent visitor experience in Granard. The specification called for this to be achieved through the re-development of the existing building in the context of the GMCE’s long term goal which is to develop a large site adjacent to the centre and Motte & Bailey into a visitor attraction of scale and also in the context of Ireland’s Ancient East brand proposition as well as local tourism initiatives.
The core of the report was to be a market study which addresses which themes should be put forward for interpretation in to attract the largest number of visitors possible. At the outset of this market-driven exercise the report was also to incorporate an interpretative plan showing how the primary vision can be translated into an incredible visitor experience at the visitor centre and how this experience can be scaled-up in the future to complement the proposed heritage & activity park development on the adjacent site.
We are now in the second phase of the project - the detailed interpretative design - where a complete visitor eperience flow has been designed along with the content for each room. Following the completion of graphic design and video production works we will move into the exhibition manufacture and fit-out stages over the coming months.
The exhibition will be open to the public in the Autumn of 2017. Please come back soon to check on progress.
