Connemara Pony Heritage Centre, Letterfrack

 

In November 2024, Mirador won the contract to design the Connemara Pony exhibition at the National Park’s Pony Stables as well as a series of interpretative interventions and wayfinding in the woodland (sensory) trail and pony paddock trail. Following an initial scoping meeting, a series of consultations were carried out along with detailed subject-matter research, audience profiling, concepts and narratives development while the park’s staff opinions were also gathered through group exercises. A survey of the site was also completed and modelled in 3D to form the basis for design discussions. Preliminary costings and projections were also developed.  Mirador worked in tandem with Cooney Architects to form the specifications for the building works necessary to turn the stables into a visitor attraction. All stages were conceived as an iterative process through which the proposed visitor experience and operational models emerged.  Following the delivery of Mirador’s high-level interpretation plan and costings the project moved on to detailed design stage. During this stage, Mirador developed all content (graphics, EN/ GA copy) to print-ready stage along with detailed drawings and specification of all proposed exhibits and signage. The resulting detailed design package was used by Connemara National Park as a basis for RFQs. Upon appointment of the fit-out contractor, Mirador managed the project timelines, manufacture quality control and supervision of the fit-out to final hand-over.
