The Seed Store at Avondale Forest Park (Beyond the Trees)
Mirador Media has had a close relationship with Coillte's manufacturing partners - OSB and MDF manufacturers Smartply and Medite - since using their solvent free products in our museum-grade cabinets since 2019. Coillte (the Irish Forestry management agency) also operates a number of recreational facilities throughout the country including many forest parks and their flagship visitor experience 'Beyond the Trees' at Avondale Forest Park. In early 2023, Coillte contacted Mirador to help re-invent their retail and café space using exclusively Irish forestry products in an imaginative way. We set-out to re-design the corridor-like space using 'sandwiched' OSB (Smartply) boards to create structures which would give the space an illusion of extra width by creating an imaginary ceiling holding athmospheric lighting. A shop-front was also created to help frame the retail offering whilst the outide was designed using Irish-sourced Douglas Fir reflecting the inside structures for seamless connectivity. A separate company was commissioned to design a new kitchen area and serving counter to complement our seating area. In addition to the retail units designed by Mirador, interpretation and signage throughout give visitors additional information about the timbers used.
