Superhuman at Galway City Museum
SUPERHUMAN, is a new exhibition celebrating collaboration, creativity and innovation in medical technology (medtech) research in Ireland. Imagined and designed by Mirador with CÚRAM (the SFI Research Centre for Medical Devices – a national centre based at University of Galway), in collaboration with Galway City Museum, this exhibition was build by Triangle Productions Ltd through public procurement, and showcases the development of Galway and Ireland as a medtech hub and explains how we can all play a part in driving research forward. At the centre of the exhibition is the brain which symbolises the multiple disciplines and people involved in the making of a medical device - including researchers, patients, engineers and consultants. As visitors engage with the exhibit in a collaborative approach, the room alights with projections of neurons connecting. Radiating from this centrepiece are various bodyparts including an eye and a giant heart 'cinema'. Each installation is a science experiment in itself and encourages visitors to explore the past, present and future of the fascinating world of medical device technology through hands-on activities and first hand emotional accounts from patients. The exhibition also encourages visitors to become more active as despite all advances in technology, prevention is always better than the cure. This exhibition will be based at Galway City Museum for a period of two years and has been designed in modular format so that it can travel to other cities across Ireland threafter. Galway City Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm and Sundays 12pm – 5pm. Admission is FREE!
